Mechanical Edge Finder

A mechanical edge finder (often called a wiggle finder or pip squeak) is a precision tool used in machining to locate the exact edges of a workpiece on a milling machine. It helps set the work coordinate system (X and Y zeroes) with high accuracy, typically within 0.005 millimetres

How It Works
The tool consists of two spring-loaded cylinders.
You place the shank into the machine spindle.
You spin the spindle at a low speed (usually 500 to 1,000 RPM).
The tip will initially wobble out of alignment.
As you move the workpiece closer, the tip aligns perfectly straight.
The moment the tip touches the edge, it suddenly sideways jumps (kicks out).
This "kick out" indicates the spindle centre is exactly one half-tip radius away from the edge
